A Special Edition of Exeter Socialist
Euro Debate:
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

- Editorial -

elcome, to a special Euro Debate edition of Exeter Socialist. In this edition there will be articles that advocate a range of different socialist perspectives as regards any future Euro referendum.

So does the Socialist Alliance not have a position on the Euro? No, not at the moment but we are holding a national conference to decide our attitude to the Euro on 12 October 2002. In the meantime we think it is healthy for socialists to debate the issue openly and publicly.

European Parliament in Strasbourg

A Fistful of Euros?

There are three main articles in this edition, one that is in favour of the Euro, one that is against and one that advocates an abstentionist position.

The diversity of perspective on this issue perhaps reflects the fact that the Socialist Alliance as a relatively new organisation is an alliance. The SA consists of a number of individual socialists and  component organisations that whilst having agreement on most issues have a variety of perspectives on this issue. However, what we all share is our internationalism and our desire to see a socialist Europe, and a socialist world.
